MEDIA ADVISORY: MU’s “Cosmic Conversations” Continues this Month with Discussion of Potential Asteroid Collisions with the Earth

WHAT: November’s “Cosmic Conversations” will focus on meteorite and comet collisions in space. In his kid friendly lecture “Impact!” Alan Whittington, professor of geological sciences in MU’s College of Arts and Science, will introduce attendees to the theories surrounding asteroid collisions with the Earth. In addition, children who attend will be able to conduct impact simulation experiments.

The University of Missouri Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Arts and Science and the Central Missouri Astronomical Association host the monthly lecture series, “Cosmic Conversations.”

Lectures take place on the first Wednesday of each month. Laws Observatory, on the fifth floor of the physics building, is open after each lecture so that attendees may view the stars. Dates and topics for upcoming lectures include Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) Neutron Scattering Talks on Dec. 4.
