MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Hosts “Haunted” Observatory, Ghostly Historical Scientists Will Bring Astronomy to Life

WHAT: With Halloween approaching, scientists from the University of Missouri’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will host a Halloween-themed observatory to teach children about astronomy. The event will feature Harry Potter and deceased astronomers from history who will be available to talk with the kids as they view the night sky from the observatory. Candy and other treats will be available during the event.

Children will have opportunities to visit the “Hogwarts Astronomy Tower” where they will meet long-dead historical astronomers, including Einstein, Galileo and Tycho Brahe. Brahe, who lost part of his nose in a duel over which combatant was the superior mathematician, is known for making some of the most accurate celestial observations of his time.

NOTE: This event is free and open to the public. The observatory will be open if weather permits.
