MEDIA ADVISORY: MU’s South Farm to Hold Day of Education and Fun

Annual event features classes, crafts and more for adults and kids

WHAT: The University of Missouri’s South Farm Experiment Station will open its doors to the public for a day of science and fun.

The annual South Farm Experiment Station Showcase will feature several events and activities that celebrate the mission of South Farm and the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.

Educational activities include demonstrations, classes and discussions covering topics as diverse as pet care, Missouri wine, horseback riding techniques and tornado formation. There are several family-friendly events planned, including a pumpkin-painting contest, bug hunt and pedal tractor race. There also will be a corn maze, petting zoo and hayrides.

South Farm is a 1,452-acre research, teaching and extension center where researchers study improvements in swine, beef, sheep and crop production. Research concerning alternative fuels, turfgrass, agroforestry and equine care also is conducted at South Farm. MU students get first-hand knowledge in these areas by assisting in research programs.

NOTE: There will be demonstrations of several activities from 10 a.m. to noon, on Friday, Oct. 1 for reporters.
