MEDIA ADVISORY: MU ‘Human Library’ to Host Event for Women’s History Month

WHAT: The University of Missouri Human Library performers will host a session dedicated to National Women’s History Month. During this edition of the Human Library Project, people are invited to discuss and learn about the way of life of diverse women throughout the world. MU administrators, students, staff, and faculty who are natives or who have lived, worked, traveled, studied, researched or volunteered abroad will be at the event to share their experiences with others.

The MU Human Library Project connects audiences with people belonging to groups that are frequently confronted with prejudices and stereotypes. These people have agreed to be “living books” in the library and share their experiences and perspectives with the audience, reply to reader questions and even ask questions of the audience. The original human library project began in Denmark.

The MU Human Library Project is sponsored by the Chancellor’s Diversity Initiative. Through the Chancellor’s Diversity Initiative, MU constantly strives to become a more inclusive, creative and innovative learning and research environment with the ultimate goal to facilitate the competent functioning of students, faculty, staff and administrators in a diverse and competitive global society.
