MEDIA ADVISORY: University of Missouri Botanic Garden to Hold National Pollinator Week

WHAT: In observation of National Pollinator Week, the Mizzou Botanic Garden will hold a series of events highlighting the importance of pollinators and ways to encourage pollinator populations in Mid-Missouri. Some of the events include:

Author Reception
Wednesday, June 22
7 – 8:30 p.m.
Columbia Public Library, 100 W. Broadway
The library will host a meet and greet with Doug Tallamy, a professor of entomology at the University of Delaware and author of “Bringing Nature Home,” and Roy Diblik, principal at Northwind Landscape Design Division in Wisconsin and author of “The Know Maintenance Perennial Garden.”

Native Plant Sale
Thursday, June 23
8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Bond Life Sciences Center, MU campus
Mizzou Botanic Garden will host a native plant sale with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Missouri Prairie Foundation. The sale will include vendors from Columbia, Fulton, Jefferson City, Kirksville and Wildwood.

Native Pollinator Symposium
Thursday, June 23
8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Bond Life Sciences Center/Monsanto Hall
The symposium will feature panel discussions and book signings by various horticulture experts.

WHO: The events are open to the public.
