Media Advisory: MU’s 34th annual Homecoming Blood Drive largest in America

WHAT: The University of Missouri’s Homecoming Blood Drive is not only the largest student-run blood drive in the country, but it is also the country’s largest blood drive in general.

More than 50,000 lives have been impacted from more than 17,000 units of blood that have been donated at the Homecoming Blood Drive since 2015.

WHO: Students, faculty, staff and Columbia community members are encouraged to donate.

Every two seconds, someone in the United States is in need of blood. Red Cross, the organization sponsoring the blood drive, now sends information to donors explaining where their donated blood was received.

WHERE: Hearnes Center
600 E. Stadium Blvd.

WHEN: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 30 – Thursday, Oct. 3
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Sept. 30 at 11 a.m.

NOTE: Registration can be done at DonateBlood.com. Media interested in covering the event should contact Caroline Dade, of the homecoming steering committee, at 417-350-9467. Representatives from the Red Cross will also be available to speak to the media.
