COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of Missouri officials announced today that the Kappa Alpha fraternity has been temporarily suspended due to an alleged hazing incident. A fraternity on temporary suspension is no longer allowed to participate in campus activities, including Homecoming and social events.

While the organization is suspended temporarily, the action will not affect individual members’ abilities to attend classes and continue their academic progress this semester.

According to UM Collected Rules and Regulations 200.020: The Chancellor or Designee may at any time temporarily suspend the student organization’s operations. University recognition, access to and use of the University campus/facilities/events and/or all other University activities or privileges for which the student organization might otherwise be eligible, pending formal procedures when the Chancellor or Designee finds and believes from available information that the presence of the student organization on campus would seriously disrupt the University or constitute a danger to the health, safety, or welfare of members of the University community. The appropriate procedure to determine the future status of the student organization will be initiated within seven business days.
