WHAT: Science Café Columbia continues its mission to inspire informal, relaxed conversations about popular science topics. For this month’s topic “The Alzheimer’s Brain,” Jason Cooley, assistant professor of chemistry in the College of Arts and Science at MU, will discuss what is known about Alzheimer’s disease and how the scientific and healthcare communities are re-evaluating ways to carry out more effective research, enact better treatment strategies and improve care for individuals experiencing disease onset.
An offshoot of an international movement started by PBS’ “NOVA,” Science Café is a grassroots forum that takes place in a neighborhood coffeehouse, library or bar. Meant to include members of the community who may not normally get involved in the science conversation, the Bond Life Sciences Center sponsors Science Café Columbia as a means of nurturing a two-way conversation between scientists and the public.
WHERE: Broadway Brewery, 816 E. Broadway, Columbia
WHEN: 6 p.m., Monday, April 13
