CALENDAR ITEM: MU Hosts Speaker to Celebrate Martin Luther King Holiday

WHAT: In celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the University of Missouri will host Patricia J Williams, James L. Dohr Professor of Law at Columbia University School of Law.  Williams’ presentation, “Engaging the Community: Closing the Achievement Gap,” is sponsored by the Chancellor’s Diversity Initiative, School of Law and the Peace Studies Program.

Williams writes a monthly column, “Diary of a Mad Law Professor,” for Nation magazine covering broad issues of social justice, civil rights law, and comparative issues of class and culture in the U.S., France and Britain. She has written several books, including The Alchemy of Race and Rights.

WHO: This event is free and open to the public.

WHERE: Stotler Lounge, Memorial Union, MU Campus

A light reception, sponsored by Friends of Peace Studies, begins at 6 p.m.
