MEDIA ADVISORY: Best-Selling Expert on Music and Neuroscience, Pulitzer Prize-winning Music Journalist Discuss Words, Music and the Human Brain

WHAT: Neuroscientist, award-winning music producer and best-selling author Daniel Levitin and Pulitzer Prize-winning music critic Tim Page will participate in an interactive panel and discussion at 2 p.m. on Fri, March 12  in the Fred W. Smith Forum at the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute.

Levitin and Page will examine and discuss the importance of music, its relation to the human mind, and what it tells researchers about neurodevelopmental disorders.  They will also discuss how to pursue writing within a career. 

WHO:  Levitin is a professional musician, music journalist and award winning producer turned neuroscientist, studying how music relates to brain functions. He also is the best-selling author of This is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession and The World in Six Songs: How the Musical Brain Created Human Nature. During his career, Levitin has worked with artists such as Blue Oyster Cult, Steely Dan, Chris Isaak, Stevie Wonder, Santana and The Grateful Dead.

Page is a Pulitzer Prize-winning music critic for the Washington Post and the author of the recent memoir Parallel Play: Growing Up With Undiagnosed Asperger’s. Currently, Page brings his knowledge of music writing to the University of Southern California where he is a professor of journalism and music.
