MEDIA ADVISORY: MU to Host Inaugural “Celebrate Ability” Week

WHAT: MU officials will host “Celebrate Ability” week to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Beginning Monday, Sept. 27, activities will include movies, forums, seminars, demonstrations and a reception.
Highlights include a wheelchair basketball open house, an adaptive golf demonstration, and a presentation by Mark Zupan, decorated veteran of USA Wheelchair Rugby and star of the movie, Murderball, followed by a showing of the film on Wednesday. The first blind person to serve as a Missouri Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Richard B. Teitelman, will speak about the ADA and civil rights during a reception on Thursday.
The seminars will discuss topics such as adaptive technology resources for learning access, occupational therapy, the ADA Amendments Act and the state of accessibility on the MU campus.
