CALENDAR ITEM: MU School of Social Work Forum to Examine Issues Faced by Low-Income Women

WHAT: Low-income women face unique challenges associated with mental health and trauma. The University of Missouri School of Social Work will host a Spring Forum about this topic and its implications for social work. Kim Anderson and Martha Markward, associate professors of social work, will speak at the forum.
Anderson wrote Enhancing Resilience in Survivors of Family Violence. Her research interests include risk and resiliency factors in trauma populations, strengths-based mental health practice, and adverse consequences of domestic violence, rape and poverty experienced by women.
Markward co-authored Evidence-based Practice with Women: Toward Effective Social Work Practice with Low-income Women. Her research interests include children and youth, families and social work education.
The forum is dedicated to the memory of Marilyn Maddux, professor emeritus and a champion of women’s issues, who passed away on Nov. 12, 2010.
