MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Office for Financial Success Hosts Financial Preparedness Fair

WHAT: The average amount owed on bank-issued credit cards in the United States was about $5,000 per household in 2010. This Saturday, the University of Missouri Office for Financial Success (OFS) and Tigers Credit Union will host a Financial Preparedness Fair where presenters will discuss how to budget, enhance a credit score and protect against identity theft. Additionally, trained financial counselors will be available for one-on-one sessions with Columbia residents.
WHO: The OFS is staffed by MU personal financial planning students who volunteer to provide free financial counseling for the community.
WHEN: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24
- 11-11:45 a.m.: Presentation on budgeting
- 12-12:45 p.m.: Presentation on credit scores
- 1-1:45 p.m.: Presentation on identity theft

NOTE: The event is free and open to the public. Supervised child care will be provided in an adjoining room while parents attend the fair.
