MEDIA ADVISORY: GMOs: What are you really getting when you go to the grocery store?

WHAT: About 70 percent of our processed food contains ingredients from genetically modified plants, but what does this mean when we buy food in the grocery store? Jim Schoelz, MU professor of plant sciences, will discuss what types of genetic modifications have been introduced into crop plants as well as some of the microorganisms that have always been along for the ride in a talk titled “Transgenes in Our Food, Viruses in Our Food,” at the next MU Saturday Morning Science.
Saturday Morning Science requires no scientific background or knowledge to attend. The event is free and open to the public.
