MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Hosts Rock Group for Sustainability Q&A

October 19th, 2011

Story Contact: Christian Basi, 573-882-4430, BasiC@missouri.edu

WHAT: The University of Missouri invites the Columbia community to Q&A session about sustainability hosted by Guster, an alternative rock group that utilizes environmentally friendly practices during its concert tours with the help of the nonprofit organization Reverb. Additionally, during the Q&A session, the MU Concerts Committee will give away five tickets to Guster’s concert later that day.

WHO: Guster started “greening” its tour in 2004 when vocalist and guitarist Adam Gardner and his wife, Lauren Sullivan, founded Reverb, a nonprofit organization that helps touring artists implement sustainable activities. Reverb staff emphasizes practices such as using biodiesel fuel and rechargeable batteries; eating locally grown and organic food; using biodegradable plates and utensils; offering an online carpooling service to concertgoers, and inviting local nonprofit groups to table at shows. To date, Reverb has helped transform more than 100 major tours by major artists, including MU alumna Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay and Drake.

WHEN: 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19

WHERE: 204 Neff Hall, MU Campus

NOTE: The sustainability Q&A session is free and open to the public. For more information on Guster’s tours, see www.guster.com or www.reverb.org.
