WHAT:

The University of Missouri Department of Personal Financial Planning, the College of Human Environmental Sciences, and MU Extension are hosting a grand re-opening ceremony for the MU Office for Financial Success (OFS).

The OFS recently moved from their previous location in order to more effectively provide the best possible financial advice to enhance the college experience for MU students. The OFS is staffed with student volunteers who are studying personal financial planning at MU and provides free financial counseling for MU students, faculty and staff. Student advisers provide student loan advice, credit card debt counseling, and other important financial services to all MU students, faculty and staff. To date, the OFS already has filed more than 250 tax forms for free with the hopes of reaching their annual average of more than 1,300. The re-opening ceremony is a part of MU Extension’s celebration of “Missouri Saves Week.” MU Vice Provost Jim Spain will read an official campus welcome and a proclamation from Governor Jay Nixon, proclaiming the week of February 20 as “Missouri Saves Week.”

“Missouri Saves” is sponsored by MU Extension and is a part of a nationwide campaign in which a broad coalition of nonprofit, corporate and government groups to help individuals and families save and build wealth,” Brenda Procter, a University of Missouri Extension specialist in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, said. “MU Extension is proud to participate in this effort and provide education to help Missourians find ways to build personal assets.”
