MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Law School to Host Environmental Justice Symposium

March 9th, 2012

Story Contact: Nathan Hurst, 573-882-6217, hurstn@missouri.edu

WHAT:
Officials from the University of Missouri School of Law and the Journal of Environmental and Sustainability Law will host a symposium discussing environmental justice issues in sustainable development.

Renewable energy and sustainable development strategies are viewed as valuable tools for addressing climate change and potentially protecting areas across the world from flooding, famine and other natural catastrophes. While the effects of renewable energy and sustainable development can be life changing, they also can pose threats to surrounding environments by having adverse impacts on neighboring residents.

The MU symposium will discuss the tension between the desire to promote environmental justice globally through renewable energy development and the local environmental justice concerns that such development can sometimes raise.

The symposium is free and open to the public. For more information and to register visit: http://law.missouri.edu/faculty/symposium/jesl2012/.
