MEDIA ADVISORY: MU to Host Debate on Contraception Use

WHAT:
The University of Missouri Difficult Dialogues Program will host a public forum discussing current issues and controversies surrounding contraception and reproductive rights in the United States. The forum, titled “Courageous Conversations on Contraception: Women’s Health and Religious Freedom,” will feature a panel of experts on religion, law, medicine and social issues. This panel will debate and discuss various perspectives regarding the use of contraception in the United States.

The Difficult Dialogues Initiative (DDI) is a part of the Chancellor’s Diversity Initiative at the University of Missouri. Through the Chancellor’s Diversity Initiative, MU constantly strives to become a more inclusive, creative and innovative learning and research environment with the ultimate goal to facilitate the competent functioning of students, faculty, staff and administrators in a diverse and competitive global society.

John Baker, former senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Columbia
Joshua Hawley, associate professor of law at the MU School of Law
JoAnn Jorgovan, assistant director of campus ministry at the St. Thomas More Parish & Newman Center
Rebecca Martinez, assistant professor of women’s and gender studies at MU
Rigel Oliveri, associate professor of law at the MU School of Law
Shawna Strickland, clinical associate professor at the MU School of Medicine
