MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Celebrates Graduate Education Week in Missouri

WHAT: The University of Missouri will host multiple events throughout Graduate Education week in Missouri to raise awareness of the importance of graduate education. The goal of this week is to raise public awareness about the positive outcomes and impacts of graduate education.
MU will host several events, including a recognition ceremony for state legislators who have supported graduate education in Missouri, a seminar about graduate school, workshops on picking the right school and finding good mentors, and a seminar to help students improve their graduate school resumes. All events will be held on the MU campus.
Nineteen other public and private universities throughout Missouri also will be hosting events during Graduate Education Week including Columbia College, Stephens College, Truman State University, Washington University in St. Louis and Missouri State University. MU awarded 1,951 graduate degrees in the Fall of 2011; 62 percent of all doctoral degrees in Missouri are awarded at MU.
WHO: MU students and community members interested in learning more about graduate education.
State legislators that will be recognized include:
- Senator Kurt Schaefer (R-19, Boone and Randolph counties)
- Senator Tim Green (D-13, St. Louis county)
- Representative Chris Kelly (D-24, Boone county)
- Representative Caleb Jones (R-117, Cooper, Moniteau, Pettis and Morgan counties)
