By Jerett Rion

WHAT:
Student actors from the University of Missouri will present, “Nutrition 101,” a play about women’s body image. The interactive performance was developed based on focus group research conducted by an MU undergraduate research team advised by faculty members Maria Len-Rios and Suzanne Burgoyne. Together, the researchers evaluated how college women viewed their bodies and how they felt about media portrayals of females.

During the performance, actors will remain in character and audience members can ask the characters questions.

Defoe-Graham residence hall

The project is part of Mizzou Advantage’s food for the future and media of the future initiatives.

Mizzou Advantage was created to increase MU’s visibility, impact and stature in higher education, locally, statewide, nationally and around the world. Mizzou Advantage is a program that focuses on four areas of strength: food for the future, media of the future, one health/one medicine and sustainable energy. The goals of Mizzou Advantage are to strengthen existing faculty networks, create new networks and propel Mizzou’s research, instruction and other activities to the next level.

The MU Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs provided additional funding for the performance.
