MEDIA ADVISORY: Military Expert Addresses U.S. Foreign Policy at MU Peace Studies Event

WHAT: The University of Missouri Peace Studies Program will host Andrew Bacevich, a professor of international relations and history at Boston University, for its annual Peace Perspectives Lecture. Bacevich will speak about whether the U.S. can act as a superpower imposing its will on other sovereign nations in his presentation, “The Limits of Power.” He also will address when the U.S. should withdraw from Afghanistan and how national leaders should address Iran’s nuclear capability.

Bacevich’s lecture is sponsored by the Friends of the MU Peace Studies Program and co-sponsored by the MU Offices of the Chancellor, Provost and Dean of the College of Arts and Science; the MU student chapters of Amnesty International, Grass Roots Organizing and Students for Progressive Action; and several campus departments.

WHO: Bacevich has authored 13 books, including “Washington Rules: America’s Path to Permanent War” and “The New American Militarism: How Americans Are Seduced by War.” He received a bachelor’s degree at the U.S. Military Academy and holds a doctorate in diplomatic history from Princeton University. Previously, he taught at West Point and Johns Hopkins University. Bacevich also has held fellowships at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, the John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Council on Foreign Relations.
