MEDIA ADVISORY: MU to Host 2012 Mizzou Diversity Summit
October 30th, 2012
WHAT: The 2012 Mizzou Diversity Summit will bring the MU campus community together to share varied perspectives and identify sustainable solutions for furthering the progress of the campus toward a more diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
Participants will learn of the progress the university has made over the course of the past two years, share skill-building techniques and strategies, develop ideas, network and learn about each other, and help set the priorities for future strategic planning, development, and continued action in the area of civility and diversity at the University of Missouri.
The summit also will kick off the new “Show Me Respect” campaign that will encourage a standard of behavior that reflects MU’s core values: Respect, Responsibility, Discovery and Excellence.
“Show Me Respect is a new campus initiative that asks us to live up to our values: to remember at all times that everyone, no matter their background or beliefs, is deserving of our courtesy and thoughtfulness; to engage in vigorous debate of ideas without making personal attacks and to eschew the kind of behavior that serves only to belittle and demean others,” MU Chancellor Brady Deaton said. “Show Me Respect asks us to live up to the best in ourselves and, by doing so, to make the University of Missouri a warmer and more welcoming environment for all those who are here to work and learn together.”
