MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Hosts Harvard Expert for Public Health Lecture

Researcher will discuss how socioeconomic, racial and religious factors affect health

WHAT: David Williams, a public health professor at Harvard University, will discuss the social influences on health during a lecture, “Making America Healthier: What Can Each of Us Do?”

WHO: Williams is the Florence and Laura Norman Professor of Public Health and a professor of African and African-American studies and sociology at Harvard University. He has authored more than 260 scholarly papers and is among the top 10 most cited researchers in social sciences. He has served on the Department of Health and Human Services’ National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics and on seven panels for the Institute of Medicine.

NOTE: The event is hosted by the MU School of Health Professions and sponsored by Mizzou Advantage and the Chancellor’s Distinguished Visitors Series.

This lecture is an example of the University of Missouri’s highly collaborative, interdisciplinary culture in the area of One Health/One Medicine. Four key areas of collaborative strength that distinguish MU are collectively known as the Mizzou Advantage. The other three areas are Food for the Future, Sustainable Energy and Media of the Future.
