MEDIA ADVISORY: MU to Host Symposium on Legal Journalism

WHAT: The University of Missouri School of Law will host the Missouri Law Review Symposium, “The Art, Craft, and Future of Legal Journalism: A Tribute to Anthony Lewis.” The symposium will address the state of legal journalism and issues that arise when covering law in the media. The event is co-sponsored by the MU School of Journalism and the Reynolds Journalism Institute.
The symposium will honor the late Anthony Lewis, a longtime New York Times reporter and columnist who died in 2013. Lewis is known as one of the pioneers of modern legal journalism, receiving two Pulitzer prizes for his court coverage. The symposium will honor Lewis by exploring the world of legal affairs journalism he helped create.
The Missouri Law Review is an entirely student-run publication and one of the oldest legal publications west of the Mississippi River.
WHO: Keynote speaker:
Adam Liptak, Supreme Court Correspondent, The New York Times.
Many legal journalism professionals, including:
- Allen Pusey, editor/publisher of the American Bar Association Journal
- David Sellers, chief public information officer for the U.S. Courts
- Charles Davis, dean of the University of Georgia School of Journalism and expert on the Freedom of Information Act
- Several other MU professors from the School of Law and School of Journalism.
