WHAT: As part of the University of Missouri Chancellor’s Distinguished Visitors Program, Elijah Anderson, professor of sociology at Yale University, will present “The New American Color Line.” Anderson’s presentation will explore the forces of industrialism, immigration and globalization in America’s cities and how those trends lead to racially, ethnically and socially diverse groups, as well as reactions to race relations that result from these forces.

Sponsored by W.W. Norton Publishing, the Department of Sociology and the Black Studies Department in the College of Arts and Science at MU, Anderson’s work builds on the work of sociologist, W.E.B. Du Bois, and lays the groundwork for understanding society and what Anderson calls “the new American color line.”
