MEDIA ADVISORY: MU’s Bond Life Sciences Center’s Science Café Hosts Discussion on Toxin-Absorbing Plants

WHAT: Science Café Columbia continues its mission to inspire informal, relaxed conversations about popular science topics. For this month’s topic “Heavy Metals,” David Mendoza-Cozatl, assistant professor of plant sciences in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at MU, will discuss how plants can be used to reduce toxins such as cadmium and lead from soil and the environment.

An offshoot of an international movement started by PBS’ “NOVA,” Science Café is a grassroots forum that takes place in a neighborhood coffeehouse, library or bar. Meant to include members of the community who may not normally get involved in the science conversation, the Bond Life Science Center sponsors Science Café Columbia as a  means of nurturing a two-way conversation between scientists and the public.
