MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Hosts “Magic of Chemistry” Workshop

WHAT: The University of Missouri will host the Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland for a Magic of Chemistry Workshop.
The Magic of Chemistry™ is a hands-on, educational program for junior Girl Scouts (fourth and fifth graders) in the 68 mid-Missouri counties served by the Missouri Heartland Council. It is designed to ignite girls’ interest in science. The program, “Chemistry of Color,” will help Girl Scouts learn about the different color components that make the food dyes in candy. The program features a tie-dye lab where girls will learn about natural and synthetic dyes, a luminescence lab where they will learn about four types of luminescence and why some materials and animals glow-in-the-dark, and a color lab where they will learn about colors in chemical reactions.
