MEDIA ADVISORY: MU to Celebrate Veterans Week with ROTC Parade, Wreath Laying Ceremony

WHAT: In recognition of Veterans Day and in honor of those who have served in the military, the University of Missouri will host several activities during the week of Nov. 9. Highlights include a parade hosted by the Air Force ROTC that will conclude with remarks by distinguished guest speaker, Lt. Gen. Richard C. Harding, former leader of the Judge Advocate General Corps of the United States Air Force, and the annual wreath laying ceremony, which honors veterans who are MU students, faculty and staff.
WHO: All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Mizzou Veterans Week 2014
Sunday, Nov. 9
MUROTC Veterans Day Parade and Closing Ceremony
1:30-2 p.m.
8th Street
The parade will start at the Mizzou columns and will travel from Francis Quadrangle to the Boone County Courthouse.
Monday, Nov. 10
Veterans Week Speaker: J.R. Martinez
7:30 p.m.
Missouri Theatre
Martinez is an Army veteran who sustained severe burns to more than 34 percent of his body while serving in Iraq. Martinez gained national recognition because he has won the show “Dancing with the Stars.” This was after suffering injuries from a road-side bomb. He will discuss how he took his personal tragedy and turned it into inspiration for others.
Tuesday, Nov. 11
Veterans Clinic Symposium on Veterans Day
8-11:45 a.m.
The University of Missouri School of Law Veterans Clinic will host a symposium, “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Issues in Veterans Disability Cases: New Cases and Practical Tips,” that will feature professionals knowledgeable in veterans’ issues such as PTSD and MST.
Veterans Day Celebration
12 p.m.
Memorial Tower, Memorial Student Union, MU Campus
The annual wreath laying ceremony will be held to honor veterans who are MU students, faculty and staff under the Memorial Union tower.

Veterans Week Speaker: Stormie Dunn
7 p.m.
Room G108, Student Center, MU Campus
Dunn is an Army veteran, author of Silenced No More: The Courage of a Soldier – Life After Military Sexual Trauma and an advocate for service members who have experienced military sexual trauma.
