CALENDAR ITEM: Lecture on Holocaust Depictions and Changing Perspectives in History to be Held at MU

WHAT: Geoff Eley, contemporary history professor at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, will visit the University of Missouri to present, “Placing the Holocaust in History: Shifting Perspectives, 1960-2010.” Eley’s talk will focus on ways historians have represented the Holocaust to the public and how viewpoints have changed over time.

Eley, whose research interests include film and history, comparative fascism and questions of historiography, is an expert in the fields of modern German and European history. His recent books include Forging Democracy: The History of the Left in Europe, A Crooked Line: From Cultural History to the History of Society and The Future of Class in History: What’s Left of the Social?, which was co-authored by Keith Nield. Eley currently is writing a book about the general history of Europe in the twentieth century.

The lecture is sponsored by the Chancellor’s Fund for Distinguished Visitors, Curators’ Professor Jonathan Sperber and the departments of History, German and Russian Studies and Peace Studies in the College of Arts and Science at MU.
