CALENDAR ITEM: Chancellor’s Arts Showcase ‘The Jefferson Era,’ to Feature Performances by MU Students

WHAT: The University of Missouri School of Music, the Department of Theatre and the Department of Art will host the Chancellor’s Arts Showcase, “The Jefferson Era,” to be held on Thomas Jefferson’s birthday.
The showcase will feature period music (including harpsicord, and historical fife and drum corps), spirituals sung by the Legion of Black Collegians choir, a scene from the Corps of Discovery Opera, unique Jeffersonian exhibits prepared by MU art students, and dramatic works and readings.
The event will feature the world premiere of a composition by Sinquefield Composition Prize winner Trey Makler, a junior music composition major at MU. The Sinquefield Composition Prize competition is part of the Mizzou New Music Initiative and is supported by Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield and the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation.
Sponsors include the MU College of Arts and Science, Mizzou Botanic Garden, the School of Music, the departments of art and theatre and the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation.
