CALENDAR ITEM: MU Peace Studies Department to Host Discussion on Human Rights

WHAT: The MU Peace Studies Department will present “Don’t Give Up on Human Rights,” a discussion about the history and viability of the human rights project as the 2015 Peace Perspectives lecture.
The discussion will focus on social integration in complex modern societies and the problems and prospects of contemporary forms of justice, human rights, restorative justice and deploying contemporary sociological theory to solve problems in political philosophy.
WHO: Benjamin Gregg, professor of government at the University of Texas at Austin is the author of “Human Rights as Social Construction.”

WHEN: 7:30 – 9 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21
NOTE: This event is free and open to the public; a question and answer discussion will follow the lecture.
The event is co-sponsored by MU Peace Studies, the College of Arts and Science; Women and Gender Studies; the Truman School of Public Affairs; and the departments of Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy and German.
