CALENDAR ITEM: MU to Host Distinguished Lecturers on Afro-Cuban Diversity, Equality

WHAT:  The Afro-Romance Institute, the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures and the Chancellor’s Distinguished Visitors Program will bring two guest lecturers to the University of Missouri to speak about diversity and equality for Afro-Cubans.

WHO:  Aline Helg, a professor of Latin American History at the University of Geneva, Switzerland and author of Our Rightful Share: The Afro-Cuban Struggle for Equality 1886-1912 will present a lecture, “The Struggle of Afro-Cubans for Equality, 19^th-20^th Centuries.”

Robert Zurbano, Cuban journalist, essayist, cultural critic, past editor and publisher of the Casa de las Americas publishing house, will present a lecture “Trafficking Identies: People, Questions and Black Authors in 21^st Century Cuban Literature.”

WHEN:  3:30 – 5:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23
