MEDIA ADVISORY: MU to Host Lecture on Language Recovery After Brain Damage

WHAT: The School of Health Professions at the University of Missouri will host “Understanding, Predicting and Facilitating Language Recovery After Stroke,” presented by Dr. Swathi Kiran. Kiran will focus on how learning about the effects of brain damage on communication may lead to better treatment methods.

WHO: Kiran is a professor in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at Boston University and an assistant professor in neurology and neuroscience at Massachusetts General Hospital. She received a doctorate in speech language pathology from Northwestern University and has more than 60 publications across a variety of disciplines including cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging, rehabilitation, speech language pathology and bilingualism.

In addition, Kiran is a fellow of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and is the co-founder and scientific adviser for Constant Therapy, a software platform for rehabilitation tools after brain injury.
