CALENDAR ITEM: 2016 Communication Week Begins April 18 at MU

WHAT: Comm Week, the MU Department of Communication’s annual week of celebration, will convene April 18 – April 22 on the University of Missouri campus. This year’s theme, “Find Your Voice,” includes a public speaking showcase, an undergraduate poster session highlighting students in the department who will present their research, and a keynote address by alum Howard Richards.

“Over the last few years, Comm Week has grown considerably in terms of sponsorship, the events we offer, and its reach across campus,” said Mitchell McKinney, professor and chair of the Department of Communication. “This year we’re emphasizing the importance of open and productive dialogue with the theme ‘Find Your Voice.’ We have a great week of special activities planned as students, faculty and department alumni will share their successes at Mizzou; we look forward to sharing it with the campus and community.”

Highlights include:

  • Speak Up! A Public Speaking Showcase – an interactive hour of public speaking featuring four speakers from the department’s public speaking course.  

         5 p.m., Monday, April 18, Keller Auditorium, Geology Building Room 123  

  • 8th Annual Trivia Night and Silent Auction – hosted by the department’s honor society, Lamda Pi Eta. The evening will include food, trivia and an auction.

         6 p.m, Tuesday, April 19, Stotler Lounge, Memorial Union.

  • Keynote Address – Howard Richards, former NFL player and former CIA member, will present “Finding Your Voice in the Quest for Success,” where he will discuss the process of finding one’s professional and personal voice.

         5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, Stotler Lounge, Memorial Union.

  • Courtyard Cookout – Comm Week will end with a courtyard cookout, hosted by the Intercollegiate Communication Organization of Mizzou, which will feature live music.

         12 – 2 p.m., Friday, April 22, Switzler and Lafferre Courtyard, Francis Quadrangle.
