MEDIA ADVISORY: MU to Host 15th Annual Cambio de Colores Conference

WHAT: The Cambio Center at the University of Missouri will host the 15th annual “Cambio de Colores: Latinos in the Heartland” conference. The conference will bring together researchers, practitioners and those working with immigrant communities to share experiences and knowledge to facilitate the integration and inclusion of Latinos and immigrants in new settlement areas.

This year’s theme is “Building Bridges, Dialogue and Opportunity” and will focus on the need for developing connections among diverse groups and facilitating understanding of differences.

More than 70 presentations and workshops will address topics such as positive youth development, education, intercultural communication, change and integration, civil rights and political participation, entrepreneurship, and economic development.

WHO: Keynote speakers include:

Juan Andrade, Jr., president of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute and recipient of the Presidential Citizens Medal and the National Ohtil Award

Gustavo Carlo, professor of human development and family science and director of the MU Center for Family Policy and Research

Edmund ‘Ted’ Hamman, professor of teaching, learning and teacher education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Sandy Magaña, professor of disability and human development at the University of Illinois-Chicago
