MEDIA ADVISORY: MU’s Molecular Cytology Core to Introduce State-of-the-Art Imaging Equipment to Media
June 21st, 2016
WHAT: The Molecular Cytology Core (MCC), located at MU’s Bond Life Sciences Center, will host a media event introducing cutting-edge imaging equipment that is revolutionizing the ways in which life sciences research is conducted at Mizzou.
The equipment, which features live-cell imaging capabilities, was purchased through more than $1 million in investments from the innovative licensed technologies that Mizzou researchers are developing every day.
“Mizzou was very early in the game in purchasing this type of equipment,” said Thomas Phillips, professor of biological sciences and director of the MCC. “The purchase of this high resolution imaging equipment and software is providing spectacular views of cells and cellular biology that is leading to improved and faster results in areas such as HIV research, hepatitis research, plant sciences, and veterinary and human medicine.”
Media are invited to attend the open house where demonstrations may be recorded and interviews may be conducted with researchers. Speakers include Phillips, as well as Mark McIntosh, interim vice chancellor for the office of Research, Graduate Studies and Economic Development.
WHERE: Molecular Cytology Core (MCC), Bond Life Sciences Center Room 120, MU campus
WHEN: 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 21
NOTE: Media interested in attending should RSVP to Jeff Sossamon at sossamonj@missouri.edu or 573-882-3346.
