MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Hosting Summer Leadership Academy for Middle School Students

WHAT: The University of Missouri, Truman School of Public Affairs will host the Truman Leadership Academy, a one-week summer day camp, to engage middle-school students in civic and community service. The Academy will include leadership training, service projects and other community engagement opportunities for students.
This year’s camp will feature a community service project and a visit to the Capitol and the Supreme Court of Missouri, among other activities.
Agenda items include:
1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19
Campers will visit City Hall and role-play as the city council to discuss policy.
11:00 am, Wednesday, July 20
Campers will work with the City of Columbia-Volunteer Services to clean up Flat Branch Park and the surrounding downtown area.
10:00 a.m., Friday, July 22
Campers will travel to Jefferson City for a tour of the State Capitol
WHO: Participants include youth entering the sixth, seventh or eighth grades.
WHEN: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Monday, July 18- Friday, July 22
WHERE: MU campus, Columbia City Hall, Flat Branch Park and the Missouri State Capitol.
