MEDIA ADVISORY: University of Missouri to Hold Mid-Missouri Innovation Week Events

WHAT: The University of Missouri will hold several events during Mid-Missouri’s Innovation Week. Hosts include Mizzou and a group of regional organizations, universities and businesses that support and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of mid-Missouri inventors. Major supporters include Central Bank of Boone County, Columbia Business Times and RMI, Inc.
The week’s events hosted by Mizzou will include:
Mid-Missouri Innovation Week Keynote Speaker, Shawn Askinosie, Founder and CEO of Askinosie Chocolate
Monday, Oct. 10
7 p.m.
Columns Ballroom, Reynolds Alumni Center, MU campus
Shawn Askinosie who will discuss, “Finding a Vocation, Kinship and Work Worth Doing.” The presentation will focus on how he prioritizes fairness, sustainability, transparency, kinship, and community enhancement in his business, Askinosie Chocolate.
Entrepreneurial Boot Camp
Tuesday, Oct. 11
9 a.m.-3 p.m.
SBTDC, REDI Training Room, 500 East Walnut St., Suite 103, Columbia
Experienced entrepreneurs, counselors, financial advisors and professionals present 1-hour information sessions for those interested in starting their own business or expanding their current enterprise.
MU Coulter Awards Ceremony, Hosted by the Coulter Foundation
Tuesday, Oct. 11
10-11 a.m.
Great Room, Reynolds Alumni Center, MU campus
Formed in 2012, the University of Missouri Coulter Translational Partnership Program is a five-year, $5 million partnership between the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation and the University of Missouri. The program works to accelerate the translation of biomedical innovations into products that improve patient care. The presentation will feature new technologies and faculty researchers, primarily in medicine and engineering, who have received funding for the upcoming year.
Missouri Tech Expo, Presented by the Office of Technology Management and Industry Relations
Thursday, Oct. 13

Bond Life Sciences Center, MU campus
The University of Missouri will present licensing opportunities and networking opportunities with investors, entrepreneurs and Mizzou inventors. The Expo is open to the public. General admission is $40, which covers all sessions, breakfast, lunch and refreshments. MU Innovation and Entrepreneurial Recognition Reception, Dinner and National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Mizzou Chapter Induction
