MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Homecoming to Honor Traditions

WHAT: The Mizzou Alumni Association (MAA) invites the Columbia community to join in celebrating “A Tail of Tradition” during the University of Missouri’s 105th Homecoming celebration. Homecoming celebration activities kicked off last week with the Homecoming Blood Drive, one of the largest college-based blood drives in the nation, where the MU community collected 4,374 units of blood.

Traditional Homecoming activities for this weekend include Campus Decorations, a Mizzou Spirit Rally with Marching Mizzou and MU Spirit Squads and the 105th anniversary Homecoming Parade.

Friday, Oct. 21

10 a.m. – 4 p.m Homecoming Headquarters

Check in for Homecoming weekend at the Reynolds Alumni Center and Traditions Plaza, reconnect with friends and enjoy some delicious kettle corn mid-afternoon courtesy of the Bates County Mizzou Alumni chapter.

11:30 a.m. Mizzou Homecoming Hall of Fame Luncheon

The Mizzou Alumni Association will host the first Hall of Fame Luncheon to honor the inaugural alumni inductees of the Mizzou Homecoming Hall of Fame. The inaugural inductees are Linda Godwin, David Novak and Kellen Winslow. 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Campus Decorations

Students and alumni can gather in Greek Town to view skits performed by the MU Greek community.

8:30 p.m. Spirit Rally

Get fired up for the big game at Traditions Plaza, featuring appearances from Truman the Tiger, the Mizzou Spirit Squads and Marching Mizzou.

Saturday, Oct. 22

9 a.m. Homecoming Parade Presented by CenturyLink

The parade will start on the corner of Tiger and Conley Avenues and make its way through downtown Columbia. Inaugural Homecoming Hall of Fame inductees Linda Godwin, David Novak and Kellen Winslow will serve as grand marshals. 3 p.m. Kickoff, MU vs. Middle Tennessee State

The Tigers will play the MTSU Blue Raiders at Memorial Stadium. At halftime of the game, results of the student vote will be announced at the MU Homecoming king and queen will be crowned. Single game tickets are on sale at mutigers.com or 1-800-CAT-PAWS. The 2016 Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime.
