Calendar Item: British Museum Expert Will Help Decode Noah’s Ark as Part of the Norton Lecture Series at MU
October 28th, 2016
WHAT: The Mid-Missouri Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) and the University of Missouri will host Irving Finkel, assistant keeper of the Department of the Middle East at the British Museum, who will present his lecture “The Ark Before Noah.”
Finkel will discuss how decoding the symbols on a cuneiform tablet, a 4,000 year-old piece of clay, enabled a new interpretation of the Noah’s Ark story. The tablet reveals a new version of the Babylonian account of the flood, including detailed instructions for constructing the ark.
The Norton Lecture, named for Charles Eliot Norton, founder and president of the AIA and professor of history at Harvard University, is part of the AIA’s National Lecture Program.
WHERE: 101 Swallow Hall, MU Campus
