MEDIA ADVISORY: Mizzou Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Lecture from Renowned Civil Rights Activist

WHAT: In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the University of Missouri is hosting civil rights scholar and activist Angela Davis, who will speak on her involvement in the civil rights movement.
WHO: Davis is best known for her work to combat all forms of oppression in the U.S. and abroad. She has lectured in every state, as well as Africa, Europe, the Caribbean and the former Soviet Union. Additionally, her articles and essays have appeared in numerous journals, and she is the author of nine books, most recently, “The Struggle for Justice: Ferguson, Palestine, and the Foundations of a Movement.” Davis is a professor emerita at the University of California-Santa Cruz.

WHERE: Missouri Theatre, 203 S. Ninth Street, Columbia
NOTE: Tickets to the event have been claimed. There will be an overflow room in Keller Auditorium in the Geology Building on the MU campus.
Media will not be allowed to record any part of Davis’s lecture. However, she will be available for media questions prior to her lecture at 4 p.m. on Jan. 24 in the Black and Gold Room of the Tiger Hotel on Eighth St. Reporters are asked to please RSVP to Nathan Hurst, hurstn@missouri.edu, by 1 p.m. on Jan. 24 if they wish to attend the lecture and participate in the media availability.
