MEDIA ADVISORY: MU School of Social Work to Host an Interactive Forum on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders

WHAT: The University of Missouri School of Social Work is hosting its annual spring forum. This year’s event will include an interactive forum on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs), including how to identify, treat and help prevent the disorders by using motivational interviewing skills.

FASDs are a group of conditions that can occur in a person whose mother drank alcohol during pregnancy. The effects can include physical problems and behavioral problems.

Leigh Tenkku Lepper, director for research at the MU School of Social Work, will lead the presentation. Tenkku Lepper has been researching FASDs for more than 14 years and has been invited to speak at more than 50 regional and national conferences on the topic. In 2014 she received a grant to fund her research on preventing FASDs for more than 1 million dollars from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
