CALENDAR ITEM: MU researchers discuss trends in cardiovascular research, treatment

WHAT: Cardiovascular diseases are the most frequent causes of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Interdisciplinary researchers at MU will participate in the 25th Annual Cardiovascular Day, where they will share information with the university community and area physicians on current topics in cardiovascular research, including enhanced treatments and drug therapies.
Andrew D. McCulloch, distinguished professor of bioengineering and medicine at the University of California-San Diego, will present the James O. Davis Distinguished Lecture in Cardiovascular Science. McCulloch’s lab uses experimental and computational models to investigate the relationships between the molecular and cellular structures of cardiac muscle. His team is designing new methods to generate patient-specific models of the failing heart for clinical use.
