CALENDAR ITEM: MU to host interactive expo on dinosaurs and cavemen

WHAT: The University of Missouri Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences and the Columbia Public Schools Planetarium are partnering again for the Sixth Annual Dinosaurs and Cavemen Science Expo. The expo allows students and their families to explore the worlds of dinosaurs and cavemen.

Inside the planetarium, families can watch “Earth’s Wild Ride,” a journey through Earth’s history by exploring the climate and its impact on natural history, particularly during the Ice Age. Outside the planetarium, more than 40 MU students and faculty will host a series of activities and displays focusing on anatomy, dinosaur paleontology and human origins. Additional activities include cave painting, making dinosaur tracks and mapping a fossil quarry.

Gary Staab, world-famous artist and paleosculpter, will be this year’s keynote speaker hosted by Saturday Morning Science. His life-sized, hand crafted sculptures adorn natural history museums, exhibits and institutions all over the world. After Staab’s presentation at 10:30, he will become part of the exhibits himself as he live sculpts for the public.

WHO: The expo is free and open to the public.
