WHAT:  Colin Rule, a leading national expert in online dispute resolution, will discuss how online mediation is being recognized by the courts for its potential to expand justice for those who are involved in low dollar civil cases. The presentation will introduce attendees to a variety of tools and demonstrate safe guard procedures.

For more than 25 years, Rule has been considered a trailblazer in legal technology—creating online platforms for eBay and PayPal that revolutionize the way businesses handle disputes between buyers and sellers. Rule also co-founded Modria, a leading online dispute resolution provider, which has been acquired by Tyler Technologies.

Rule collaborated with University of Missouri School of Law Professor Amy J. Schmitz in writing “The New Handshake: Online Dispute Resolution and the Future of Consumer Protection.” Rule is currently the co-chair of the advisory board of the National Center for Technology and Dispute Resolution at UMass-Amherst and a non-resident fellow at the Gould Center for Conflict Resolution at Stanford Law School.
