MEDIA ADVISORY: Mizzou hosts global leadership academy to inspire future leaders

WHAT: The Cherng Global Leadership Academy, a 10-day residential leadership camp for students in grades 8 through 11, will be hosted at the University of Missouri. Facilitated by the Honors College, the program aims to promote leadership skills, civic involvement and community service in the hopes of inspiring local youth to become today’s community leaders and tomorrow’s world leaders.

Activities include a poverty simulation, a mock city council meeting, visits to the White House Decision Center and the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture, and a community service project.

WHO: Participating students entering grades 8 – 11.

WHEN and WHERE: Cherng Global Leadership Academy (MU campus)
Sunday, July 15 – Tuesday, July 24

Highlighted sessions include:

Poverty simulation (Stotler Lounge, Memorial Union)
9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 17

White House Decision Center visit (Harry S Truman Presidential Library and Museum, Independence, MO)
10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, July 21

East campus cleanup (starting point will be at the corner of Bass Ave and S. College Ave)
1:30 – 3 p.m. Sunday, July 22
