CALENDAR ITEM: MU hosts “haunted” observatory, ghostly historical scientists will bring astronomy to life

WHAT: With Halloween approaching, scientists from the University of Missouri’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will host a Halloween-themed observatory to teach children about astronomy. The event will feature deceased astronomers from history who will be available to talk with parents and their kids as they view the night sky from the observatory. Candy and other treats will be provided during the event.
Children will have opportunities to visit the “Hogwarts Astronomy Tower” where they will meet long-dead historical astronomers, including Sir Isaac Newton and Galileo. Guests also will meet the ghost of Professor Dumbledore from the Harry Potter novels as he operates the telescope.

NOTE: This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Virginia Avenue Parking Structure, 901 Virginia Ave. The observatory will be open if weather permits.
