MEDIA ADVISORY: MU officials to recognize Patriot Day with wreath-laying ceremony

WHAT:
University of Missouri officials will remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, during a memorial service on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Beginning at 10 a.m., the bell in Switzler Hall will ring 18 times in recognition of the 18th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Provost Latha Ramchand, along with faculty, staff, student and alumni representatives, will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony. At the conclusion of the ceremony, trumpeter from the MU School of Music will play Taps, a 24-note melody that honors the men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of freedom.

Processional participants will include:
- Zachary Ignotz, Missouri Student Veterans Association president
- James Musgraves, Mizzou Military Vets Alumni Association president
- Latha Ramchand, MU provost
- Ross Turley, MU police officer
- Kevin Zumwalt, MU Fire and Rescue Training Institute director
WHEN: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019
WHERE: The ceremony will begin on the north porch of Jesse Hall and conclude on the north side of the columns on Francis Quadrangle.
