MU Campus Closed, Classes Canceled for Thursday
February 2nd, 2011
MU Chancellor Brady Deaton has announced that MU will remain in full closure for Thursday, Feb. 3, with all classes cancelled. UM System administration employees are included in this closure. Students are again asked to notify their families.MU is expected to open and hold classes Friday, Feb. 4, and will confirm this plan by 4 p.m. Thursday on MU Alert.
The unprecedented nature of the current weather emergency, which has combined an 18-inch snowfall with extreme winds and cold temperatures, has made clearing the campus streets, walkways, parking lots and multiple building entrances very challenging for a crew that is working 24/7 under difficult conditions. While city, county and state road crews have also been hard at work, only major thoroughfares are open at this time, making it difficult or impossible for many faculty, staff and off-campus students to get to work and to class tomorrow.
All MU Health Care hospitals remain open 24/7. The MU Student Center, Student Recreation Complex (use Hitt St. entrance only) and most dining facilities are open. Following this weather emergency closure of the university, plans will be made and announced in the near future regarding makeup classes, missed exams and appropriate adjustments to the academic calendar. Faculty should not make any adjustments to class and final exam schedules until these discussions and final decisions occur later this week or next.
Students, faculty, staff and parents should check MU Alert for future updates.
We again commend MU employees for their 24/7 service to our students and hospital patients and for their outstanding efforts in support of safety for our entire campus community.
