Fire in Ellis Library Causes Smoke, Water Damage
MU Library will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 10

COLUMBIA, Mo. — At approximately 3:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, Columbia Fire Department fire fighters responded to an automatic fire alarm in Ellis Library at the University of Missouri. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a fire in the building, which was being controlled by automatic fire sprinklers.
Fire fighters extinguished the fire; however, officials are reporting moderate smoke and water damage to Ellis Library and the State Historical Society. No injuries were reported, and fire investigators and MU Police Department officers are investigating the cause of the fire. No damage estimates are available at this time.
Due to the smoke and water damage, Ellis Library will remain closed on Saturday, Sept. 10.
